Artesian Flowing Well
Drilled in rock, artesian flowing wells are the surest solution for a good quantity of quality water.
With the new water collecting regulations issued by the Ministère du Développement Durable, Environnement et Parcs du Québec, artesian flowing wells are not necessarily more expensive then shallow wells.
In fact, the cost of a surface well is about the same as an artesian flowing well with a depth of about 200 to 300 feet. Some drillers will guarantee the minimum amount of water required for a home (so you're not throwing away your money out the window) but they cannot guarantee the quality of the water.
Even if the experts in this field have a good idea of the rock formations under your property, none can be 100% sure of what they'll find when drilling on your property.
Because of their depth, the quality of the water in a artesian flowing well is much more constant and harder to contaminate. Before reaching the well, surface water can spend as much as three months in the ground, filtered by sand and soil. Because they're drilled in the rock, there is a greater chance of getting ferruginous water or water with high concentration of minerals which is easier to treat then water contaminated with bacteria.
