Shallow Wells
In this region, shallow wells have a very goo rate of flow. But, let us remember that shallow wells collect surface water which is more susceptible to contamination.
More often then not, shallow wells are neglected, incorrectly sealed and the water becomes unfit for consumption.
With these simple rules, you can easily conserve your well for a long time :
- Block all external openings and around the suction pump pipe; this will prevent small animals from falling in the well;
- Clean the well with chlorine (once a year) et remove any roots or other plants;
- Don't spread any fertilizers (fertilizers are made from fecal matter or plants and can contaminate the well for life) for at least 100 feet around the well. And you should not tie the dog's leash to the well's cover;
- Make sure your sceptic tank and effluent filters (leaching bed or dry well) respect and adhere to the current laws.
